Our Story

It began with two great friends — Peter Stog and Yianni Arvanites — who have long dreamed of opening a European-inspired cafe. 

 

Yianni was born here, in New Jersey, to Greek-immigrant parents. From a young age, he looked forward to spending summers with family in Greece, and experiencing the traditional flavors of his heritage. Peter’s story is a bit different. Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, fresh, whole foods were standard, whether at his kitchen table or a local restaurant. As was a good cup of “café.” But like the pairing of wine with food, to Peter, drinking a cup of coffee alongside it’s perfect food match meant everything. 

In recent years, Peter and Yianni traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe, where they spent time tasting rich flavors and quality ingredients in search of that special something. However, upon returning home, they were both hit with the same, bleak reality — food has lost its narrative. Although it has become fast and convenient, it’s processed and lacks originality. And it isn’t always as fresh as it seems. 

 

In Europe, coffee is an important staple that is prepared in a variety of ways. Whether it’s known to you as “café,”coffee or something else, it always seems to mean something to people. High up in the mountains of Colorado sits Rock Canyon Coffee, where freshly harvested beans are a promise. It wasn’t until February of 2018 that Peter and Yianni found what they were looking for with this roasting company. All it took was one sip of their freshly brewed coffee, and Peter was reminded of why his love for the universal drink began. 

 

Peter and Yianni believe that with great food and drink comes an experience beyond measures of taste and smell; that its origin story means something. Why not tell this story, evoking feelings of bliss and nostalgia, and inspiring one’s curiosity — just as the cups of “café” from Peter’s childhood and the recipes of Yianni's ancestors did for them? 

 

And so was born Lokl Cafe, where memories are inspired in the form of food and fresh, quality eats from near and far are brought home to you. 

 

At the hand of seasoned chef Manos Angelopolos, we invite you to indulge in our carefully curated menu rich with eclectic ingredients. Stop in when you’re local, and taste the story behind each menu item in bold, authentic flavors. And experience what it means to find home in one sip or bite.

From our prosciutto to the bread it’s on, every item on Lokl’s menu is shipped fresh from the source or made right here in our kitchen.

The Beans

Some pair wine with food, but at Lokl, we do it a bit differently. Here, you'll find that coffee is more than just another beverage — it's the perfect match to a bite to eat. And just like good ingredients make the meal, where coffee beans come from and how they're roasted matters. 

 

In early 2018, after years of searching, we finally found the quintessential cup of coffee at a small roastery high up in the mountains of Basalt, Colorado. From the first sip, we knew their beans were right for Lokl, and we hope you'll think so too.
